At Shaker Veterinary Hospital, PC we are continually instituting innovative technology. One such example is the CO2 laser used for surgery. The laser is held close to, but not touching, the tissue to be incised. This allows for the tissue to be sanitized before being cut, resulting in reduced infections. As it cuts, the laser cauterizes vessels and nerves, resulting in less bleeding and discomfort. Humans who have had laser surgery often report less post-operative pain.

The CO2 laser has been especially helpful for declaw procedures on cats. It has resulted in significantly less bleeding. Post-operative cats are less painful and more willing to place their feet normally.
